i want a dog. as much as a like cats, dogs are much cooler. i think i've wanted a cat because i *can* have a cat in the living situations i've been in - having a dog in the apartment would just suck. i think i'm in denial about being a cat person. cats are great, but i want a dog...

wedding day:

helped diana decorate the reception area. they ran out of chirstmas lights so i had to drive to karl's place to pick them up. he was feeling a bit nervous (he didn't have butterflies in his stomach, more like a flock of angry pigeons!) so i took him for a bagel and then went back to deliver the lights. finished at the reception site and picked up the flowers. Dropped em off at the church and the went to karl's mom's place to get dressed in a (gasp!) tux. View the shocking photo here! The wedding was pretty cool, but boring, and REALLY CATHOLIC. Not that that is bad, but it was pretty funny because there were all these prayers where the priest/priestess would say something and it would prompt all the catholics to all say in unison the remainder of the prayer. Diana's half of the visitors were mostly catholic but Karl's was not, so when one of these were said half of the church would say the right stuff and the other half would be silent. Then all of a sudden the ceremony was stopped to say peace. Apparently everyone is supposed to stand up and say "peace" to the people near them. Again, only half of the wedding knew this so it was a bit awkward. So finally we (the groom'smen) figure out to stand up and start shaking hands. Still, we don't really know what we're doing or why we're doing it, so finally when i shake diana's hand she explains quickly. By the time it gets figured out, we're sitting down again...that was pretty much it. it was cool. and it went pretty quickly so that was great. oh, the priest was (probably) gay - that was cool too :)

then the newlyweds got into the limo where we followed them across reno (literally) honking our horns the whole way - apparently that is some sort of tradition. got to the reception place. it was at a golf course. sweet deal. immediately headed to the bar and got myself a jack and coke...no open bar...sigh...probably pretty good though. diana's friends were lushes in religious denial (more on that later). did the photo thing for a while and socialized with karl's best friend from conneticut (sp - i know). saw kristie tappan and a few other galena folks that i hadn't seen in AGES (and that i actually wanted to see - Merritt, Elizabeth). Brian Jackson was there - that was sweet. He's voluneteering at the redwood national forest. apparently they pay their volunteers for food and give them free housing. definately something i'd love to do...(add one more option to my list of stuff to do). Grubbed on some hella good wedding buffet food (great potato salad and excellent ranch dressing - the wedding was in hidden valley, so what do ya expect?) and then everyone started tinking their glasses (DAMNIT - toast time - saved - that means that the newlyweds have to kiss). But i knew it was time when the champaine was getting poured. I was the first to go and i kicked ASS. According to luis's (does anyone know if that is the proper way to apostrophy that name???) book The Best Man's Handbook my only duty with the toast was to do better than the maid of honor. It was close, BUT she couldn't hold herself together and was crying all over the place so i think i won. Jeff - karl's roomate from berkeley said a few words, and had the best line of the evening "Karl and i have been roomates for the past 3 years - so it is kind of like diana has been my roomate too" Hilarous because karl's family was cracking up and diana's family was like...ummm...ha ha ha...urrrr...ummm. :D

Then came the dancing. Normally something i'd be looking forward to, but it was frustrating - stupid dj didn't play any line dancing music...bastard. even after it was requested by me. Just to make sure it got played i called in 2 pairs of boobs to help out and request it as well - still nothing. Grrr.
