so i come into work this morning (monday) and half of my desk has a nice layer of ash on it. it is nice having an office with a window...except when the window doesn't close.
hrm. there is so much to write about, but i'm having trouble remembering what exactly i want to write about. lets start at the beginning...
friday was fun because i spent the evening alone at home. it was actually really nice. i can really appreciate alone time and it was a good way to usher in the weekend. drank a few beers, played some video games and called it an early night.
saturday - one word: LONG. no i'm lying, i need a few words: REALLY FUCKING LONG. had to work inside UCI (thanks dustin!) which normally is fun, but this year was...well...weird. It was a combination of many things that made the event weird. This was the first day that the fires got *bad* and ash started raining on us at the fun hour of 7:00AM. As the sun started coming out it never got brighter. The whole day was a fun imitation of what we will experience should nuclear winter ever come. The sun was a red globe of muted lighting and the sky was a mexico city-esque brown. Anyways, got to open doors (like at Preview Day a few years ago.) with new rep Cori and LBB. Gave a tour to a group who were very bleagh about the whole thing. i think it was the post-apocalypse feel that the ash and red sun were giving to the campus. the tours were made especially lame because we weren't allowed to travel through the park because of octoberfest (which is an entirely different lame story - namely the fact that they were afraid of the fact that prospective students/parents might see...*GASP*...students drinking...so the whole park had to be avoided, which is one of the best parts of our tour...and oddly because of the red sun, looked extra green - a nice contrast to the dreary day we had been having) - so the tours were bleagh. Also, the campus rep vibe is changing. Not in a bad way, and maybe i'm just getting older, but Ester & Nate noticed it too. There is alot of attitude in these new reps. Also, since i'm not a student it is kind of weird. I feel like Joe Wong or one of the old reps back when i was a little newbie...
After lunch we took people to the physical sciences information center. Pretty fun for me, i got to talk to all the nerdy HS seniors and their parents. Well, funny thing is that the info session was in engineering lecture hall (seating capacity - 300 or so)...total number of people interested in psy sci...about 15. Hilarious.
While the info session was going on the 5 reps up with me went to Octoberfest to get some beers (free ones no less). But when we get there the beer "wasn't ready". There were five guys working around the keg/cooler but for some reason the beer just wasn't ready...vierd...so we went back and did our last things for inside (one more escort and one more tour and the day was done!)
we sped off to octoberfest in time for the beer to run out, so we took a short two pitcher trip to the pub and then watched the last 30 minutes of homegrown. did some moshing (which - will be explained to wistful dreamer at another point). homegrown played a pretty good show. despite dustin & dan's dislike, they play good music (for what they are, fun alternative surfer punk), but their encore SUCKED. ALOT.
After homegrown it was back to the pub for some more beers and then when everyone (including myself) was getting ready to crash, the evening just was beginning. Went to dustin, smoked out (as if i hadn't already unintentionally inhaled enough carcinogens for one day) then to finish off the night dustin, luis, andrea and I went to tapioca express. got a great vanilla slush and a shitty bag of spicy crispy chicken. usually the chicken is good but these had WAY the hell to much spicy stuff on them...and i normally like spicy stuff, but this was rediculious (almost as rediculious as my spelling!). i think the workers were getting an idea from the nuclear winter we had experienced outside that day and put that feeling into their chicken.
so like normal people, luis and andrea went home and crashed, but dustin and I...no no...the night was still young! off to justin and cheree(?)'s house. they have a great garage turned chill out room. chilled there, smoked more, thought some deep thoughts about the military and the fact that our military is volunatary. smoked some more and then it was off to pick up some pot at the house of a million bongs. many have theorized of this location in irvine, but i have seen it with my own eyes. look left - there is a bong, look right there is another one. shit, go downstairs, watch some TV, oh god, there is a bong next to the TV, and another by the window, oh and don't forget the one in your hand...THEY WERE EVERYWHERE!!! Mind you most were little bubblers, but nevertheless, they were all over the place...
So the night is coming to an end and we head back to dustin's house. I wanted to drive home, but i was exausted...so guess what we did...yup...more pot (it never ends)...passed out at dustin's (technically i fell asleep because i remembered to remove my contacts)...and woke up braindead...
stupid pot hangovers...
woke up to move the car to a legal parking spot and was dissapointed by the fact that Street Dogs does not sell their fantastic breakfast burritos on sundays!?!
decided not to play soccer because of shitty air quailty and just chilled at home.
