since jameken and woshunda are blogging about movies i'll get on it as well...
i watched monster tonight. really i thought it was great. no, better than great (now that i'm in the uk), i guess i could call it brilliant. the whole movie was beautifully acted, the ending was supurb and the story itself was great to just watch. certain scenes were so brilliantly done i couldn't stop smiling despite the grim subject being depicted. i definately recommend this to anyone (well, if you don't mind seeing the occational violence against women and then rebuttal violence against men). definatly 4 stars yo
liam (my cousin's boyfriend) and i went to see I, Robot the other night as well. i went into this thing thinking that it was either going to be awful (which i was leaning towards) or excellent (you know the occational film that looks dreadful but is actually quite good). well, i was wrong, it was quite mediocre. actually, it was a better than mediocre, but not much. it really had the potential to bring up some very interesting philosophical topics and ideas about consiousness and humanity, but it ended up glossing them over (liam thinks this is because they had to dumb it down for mainstream consumption - and once he said that i completely understood my dissatisfaction with the flick). also there was an over reliance on CGI (to be honest, most of it really was seamless, but alot of the bluescreen work was shitty - the bluescreen problems are enough to make me hate a movie though) and wannabe matrix/crouching tiger fight scenes, which when you come down to it, you DON'T need unless you're trying to explain something. funky camera usage does not equal (they need to make a keyboard key for not equals) quality fight scenes... i guess i give it 2 and a half stars...how about this, it wasn't so terrible that mike probably wouldn't like it, but it defiantely wasn't GREAT...
