With some uber thanks to my tutor/mexican food maker/flat sharer Andi!
It snowed all day today. It is still snowing now. It is great. Andi and i (after recovering from a wee hangover and an extreme amount of dishwashing) hopped on the metro to a hungarian bath. being outside in the snow while in 38C water is great. it reminded me of the hotsprings outside of kirkwood. twas an interesting mixture of tourists and locals, but was hugely relaxing and satisfying. Hungary is an amazing town, after being here for about 3 days i have the geography worked out, but i don't really *get* the city just yet. i just can't get my finger on the pulse of the city or something, i don't know...
Last night andi cooked the best mexican food i have eaten in a year and actually some of the best ever. We had refried beans, mexican rice, (real) nachos, milanesa (breaded/fried steak) and wine. I never thought that the best mexican food in europe would be found of in all places hungary. actually before we ate i had to pick up some tortilla chips and salsa from this mexican restaraunt - oddly much better than the chips and salsa at MANY MANY places in the states. After dinner we (andi, greek/english girl, serbian dude, hungarian dude, myself) went on the town. Starting at (bleagh) an english style pub, filled with (guess!) english people. Over priced, obnoxious people, semi-annoying music, super crowded, pretty much everything i don't wnat in a pub had all convened on this one spot in budapest. minus the ubercool serbian dude who convinced me to change my travel plans. in the middle of my re-scheduling some bloke passed out on his table then made the short journey from the table to the floor. he was a part of a stag night and i looked for his buddies (all wearing huge curly blond wigs) to no avail. We (some manchester dude and myself) dragged all 250+ pounds of dead weight to his feet and got him upstairs. After about 30 minutes in the COLD we figured out where he was staying and tossed him in a cab. good deed for the month - done! a quick round up of the people we were with and off to a much better place.
now down to the serbian, the greek/english, andi and me, we headed to a bar that was much more my style, literally a covered alleyway with cheap picnic tables and chairs. aaaah, mateo bliss. twas introduced to this korean/american guy by the greek/english girl who was happy to inform me that 'oh don't worry he's a bottom'. God i hate that. the straights (dustin learned this lesson...eventually) don't get that we're not always out on the prowl. no that isn't true, but the number of times my night has been ruined by being introduced that way is stupid. there are few things worse, honestly. while the korean/american guy crew left for another club/bar, we stuck around and finished our drinks. although i'd have much rather stayed at this place greek/american girl wanted to follow her friends to their new locale. she tried to convince me that i should go because, 'well, someone is really into you' - FUCK'S SAKE.
As we made it over to new bar i was quickly re-introduced to korean/american dude who was able to segregate me from my group and specifically away from the serbian dude who was sharing a great conversation and now was stuck alone wall-flowerlike. I wouldn't have minded so much if korean/american guy was more inclusive with his conversation, instead of regulating me to a one-on-one. Arrgh frustrating.
