today was the much anticipated boxcar racing. the boxwars crew had already conqered arthur's seat with a box boat constructed with the passion of an amature and the skill of an expert - we wanted to extend this pleasure to the public. expecting to have to work our asses off to get this thing promoted and out to said public we were suprised when we were listed as a 'hitlist' even in the list (edinburgh's version of time out), called 'unmissable' by the skinny (edinburgh's free version of time out - equivalent to OCWeekly/RN&R), featured in the edinburgh evening news and in the metro, a free commuter daily available both in edinburgh and glasgow! we're mostly happy about all this media coverage, except that the edinburgh evening news and the metro both indicated that some authorities were a bit miffed about said event. which they were, but they never tried to contact us, which sucks because on the day of the event 4 park rangers were outfitted with 2 jeeps ready to stop the madness. fucking hell. i was hoping they'd call in the chopper because these pesky kids were trying to have a little fun! boooo! we were all prepared as well, waivers signed, first aid kit...anyways, we headed off to (crappy...for our purposes) carlton hill and raced anyways. the extra walk was good for all of our health and we cleaned that damn hill so it looked better than when we started. watch this space for photos & videos!

de la soul was thursday. never really been to a hip hop gig...not sure if it is my scene, but DLS were incredible. initially i wasn't sure if i would *get* it. because it seemed as though a majority of the people there weren't really hiphop heads, more in the sect of 'i should see DLS because i'm supposed to see DLS" (myself included) i didn't think the crowd was that on, but DLS still seemed to have a good time, though i'm pretty sure they were making fun of us at parts. i'd have done the same were i on stage probably. the night will live forever in my mind because they played a brilliant game of sexual politics during the end of their gig. i've never seen anything like it. just before their last song they pulled about 30-40 women onstage to dance during their last song. this was about 80-90% of the women in the gigspace. suddenly the entire room was emasculated, turing the stage into a real life music video. during this song the crowd wasn't nearly as into it, but the women on stage were so much more into it than they had been during the rest of the gig. haha.
